HISTORY


For the first year after Arielle was born, life in the Vernhail household was calm and peaceful. She was a very happy baby, rarely crying and generally being very easy to spoil by all. And then her sister, Elizabeth, was born, and things got progressively more chaotic with every year the two sisters grew older.


Being so diverse in personalities, the two sisters often bickered with each other, despite having no such issues with their subsequent siblings. Unlike many rivalries, this one only intensified as the two grew older, especially once they became of marriageable age and were usually actively competing against each other for the attention of possible suitors.


Besides this ongoing feud, Arielle's childhood was very typical of any Dentorian lady's. She took to her lessons quite well – or at least she did when she was paying attention. It was clear to all that she was easily distracted and, at times, oddly discontent with life in general, though she could never quite explain the reasons why. Still, she managed to learn her lessons well and at times greatly impressed her tutors with her abilities to understand difficult underlying concepts, even when they were not explicitly pointed out to her.


Once she and Elizabeth were both of age, they spent the majority of their time at the court in Eblar. While men flocked to them first because of Elizabeth's great beauty, they tended to stick around in order to talk with Arielle, who was much more friendly and inviting. On the first of these trips they also went with their brother, Alec, the heir to House Vernhail; however, when it became clear that he hated every minute of being in court, he was allowed to say home, leaving the girls alone under their mother's supervision, until eventually their younger siblings were old enough to attend as well.


While she was at court, there were many who approached Arielle with serious suits for her hand in marriage, the most notable being from Lachlan of Allba. While she tried to avoid rejecting any outright, Arielle found herself reluctant to accept and so put many of them off as best she could. When asked why by her mother, she was never able to come up with a concrete reasons; she just always felt like she wanted to experience more before settling down and becoming a wife and mother.


After a number of these offers had been made, Arielle received a letter from her favourite former tutor, who was now researching magic theory at the Eastern University in Temair. This letter sparked an idea and she soon began a campaign to convince her father to allow her to go to the university herself. Niall was, understandable, sceptical about this and originally dismissed it as a whim. However, after several years went by with her still continuing to change his mind, he finally wrote to the school and made arrangements for her to attend, including her special request to be known under an alias, to avoid special treatment due to her noble birth.


Once this decision was finally made, Arielle was overjoyed and began dreaming night and day of all the wonderful things she would learn and interesting people she would meet. She was sure this would be the beginning of a whole new wonderful life and she could not wait for it to start.



PERSONALITY


The first word anyone would use to describe Arielle is scatter-brained. Her mind has a tendency to jump around between subjects with very little in the way of connection. This, added, with a certain level of gullibility, leads to men often feeling protective of her, albeit in a patronizing manner (the worst offender being her own father). However, underneath a seemingly ditzy and frivolous exterior there is an intelligence based on pure instinct. Because of this, she is also an excellent judge of character.


Arielle has ambition but she is very unfocused in what she wants to do, which is why it took someone else acting for her to get the idea of going to the university. She has shown similar behaviour in the past, going through phases where she is intensely interested in something for a time but then loses the drive for it eventually.


Arielle has always been a social butterfly with many friends at court. She is very well liked, more so than Elizabeth even if her sister attracts more initial attention. Arielle also loves her family, though she is not particularly close to any of them, though she is somewhat of a Daddy's girl and can usually charm the men of her family easily enough.


APPEARANCE


Like most members of house Vernhail, Arielle has red hair, that she is known for wearing it in a sidebraid almost all of the time. She has fair skin, blue eyes, and is fairly short and slender. She always tries to stay in touch with the current fashions of Eblar's court.
